Most of us have studied together the Tao te Ching, purportedly written by Lao Tzu, which is one of the core Taoist texts, now today I want to Introduce you to Chuang Tzu (also known as Zhuangzi) purportedly written by Chuang-Tzu, (369—298 BCE) which is another core Taoist sacred texts. The Zhuangzi consists of anecdotes, allegories, parables, and fables that are often humorous or irreverent in nature.
I love Chuang Tsu. He was a rare and most unique sage. His stories, his poems and his statements are so crazy, so absurd that If you had met him and listened to him you would either have soon left him saying this guy is mad!
Or maybe, if you began to feel an inkling of what he was saying beneath all his nonsensical words, and you were a sincere seeker of the Great Understanding, you may just have been brave enough to remain and listen to his absurd statements! What would happen – just listening to his absurd statements, trying to follow him your mind would stop thinking! Then Dhyan (the highest form of meditation) would arise in you.
Dhyan is of no-mind, non doing, just being.
He was also unique as ALL his disciples became Enlightened.
Chuang Tsu is only concerned with this deepest form of Meditation (Dhyan) and not concerned with improving yourself, or gaining anything like recognition. He was only concerned with his disciples finding their own TRUE NATURE, their PURE BEING and living from that place.
‘NO MIND INHABITS THE MYSTERY OF THINGS …..
THIS IS THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING AT THE HINGE OF THE WAY (TAO)
THERE YOU CAN KNOW DARK ENIGMA’S EXTENT.
THERE YOUR MOVEMENTS ARE FREE RANGE”
The dark enigma is the pure consciousness, the emptiness one finds within oneself in deep meditation.
It is the point of creation within, from whence the “10,000 things” spring, the point of creation itself. And to live at the HINGE of nothingness and everything is the pure place to dwell.
Here is another of Chang Tsu’s poems –
“EASY IS RIGHT. BEGIN RIGHT AND YOU ARE EASY.
CONTINUE EASY, AND YOU ARE RIGHT.
THE RIGHT WAY TO GO EASY IS TO FORGET THE RIGHT WAY
AND FORGET THAT THE GOING IS EASY.”
Chuang Tsu is saying move from doing to non-doing – then you will enjoy pure ANAND, unadulterated Happiness for no reason.
Ego is not easy. When one fully understands Ego is the problem of all human misery, as
It needs your energy to create and energy to continuously maintain one’s false assumptions and theories.
Chuang Tsu would have thought that conquering Mount Everist is just foolishness, to try to satisfy the unsatisfied Ego. He thought that chasing success and riches was absurd!
Dhyan is – to relax into nobodiness, relax into nothingness, to dwell at the hinge.
Loose and natural is the way – only something natural that arises from your very being is authentic and honest.
Who is joining me on our Tuesday evening zoom classes, beginning in October, here we will delve deeper and dwell at the hinge during our meditations together.
