We are now three quarters way through our beautiful zoom, on-line, study of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and we see that the sutras point out in the most minute details all the psychological traits, the root causes of all our ills, our anxieties and fears, that prevent us from living a happy, harmonious peaceful life. We have also practiced together meditations recommended by Patanjali and they sure help sooth and harmonize our busy and chaotic minds.
Shortly, (January 28th) we will begin our study into the Bhagavad Gita, and in the Song of Krishna we will find a highly practical and personal guide on how to live, act and move through life’s difficulties. Arjuna in this profound masterpiece takes on the role of a novice, a spiritual beginner, and receives the most profound instruction from Krishna.
This of course is really OUR profound instruction on how to approach our own personal dilemmas in life. The Great Bloody Battle described within the Bhagavad Gita is our own battle, it symbolizes and describes so well our own confused mind and ideas battling each other in total confusion.

DE-MYSTIFYING THE YOGA SUTRAS OF PATANJALI
Patanjali was a genius, the Albert Einstein of Yoga and every word in his carefully created Yoga Sutras is a sparkling diamond and threads on from one to the next, not one word should be missed, and there is not one word missing. Everything that needs to be said about the True Life, about Yoga, is found within the Yoga Sutras. They deal with your entire being, your whole physiological makeup and with ardent study, you will come to understand so much about yourself and thus the entirety of creation. This understanding will help you return to your roots, your pristine innocence and understanding.
The Yoga Sutras are not a philosophy to study dryly, to only think about – then there is no possibility of your transformation. The sutras are more like a science, an alchemy, that one must practice and participate in. And if one practices diligently, much real understanding can arise within you.
It starts this autumn Anand Nigam with an online study and meditation course on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Over ten Thursday evenings (7.30 to 9pm) and ten Tuesday mornings (7 to 8am) we will be studying and meditating on the Yoga Sutras. Each Thursday evening, we will recite and study three or four sutras, meditate over them together and the following Tuesday morning after guidance and reviewing them, sit silently.
We will complete the Patanjali period with a three day Full Residential Silent Meditation Retreat (28th December to 31st 2020)
“And then one dwell in ones one true splendour, in one’s own true self “
Patanjali Sutra 1.3
THE BHAGAVAD GITA – A HANDBOOK FOR SELF-REALISATION.
The Bhagavad Gita is part of the epic The Maha Bharata. Within the Maha Bharata is a bloody war between two families of cousins, which involves the entire family.
As the two armies line up opposite each other to commence this bloody battle, Sri Krishna drives the chariot of the great warrior Arjuna and stops right between the two opposing armies. This is the scene of The Bhagavad Gita.
Thus begins the great dialogue between Krishna and Arjuna. It is a Sanskrit text on the subject of Brahma Vidya, the Science of Consciousness (Awareness) and turns out to be the greatest instruction on how to live the yogic life moment to moment in everyday life. It does not tell you to give up everything and become a monk but gives very clear instructions on how one can live life within all situations, including the family, work and society and still become Self Realised.
So when Sri Krishna stops Arjuna’s chariot, between the two warring families – he is really parking the chariot right in the Middle of your Mind – between all the waring contradictions of your Mind and begins to give suggestions/instructions on how to live within this life of so much confusion so that more clarity and innate happiness arises within you. And if one is diligent one can ultimately become Self Realised.
This study is completed with a three-day Silent Residential Meditation Retreat in Doorn on Weekend Friday 28th May to 30th May 2021.
