RUMINATIONS AT AVEBURY CIRCLE, ENGLAND.
I could not help but feel, while walking around Avebury Circle last week, the loss of the deep and natural intelligence that human beings lived by during the Neolithic Age more than 3000 years BC. There is so much evidence worldwide of this loss of understanding with ancient monolithic structures which are still standing. When one walks around them one feels so much wonder at the mystery’s that surrounds them. These structures took hundreds of years to complete, over several generations, indicating that the architects who planned them must have lived with a vision of time that was timeless, together with their understanding of the intricate movements of the stars and planets wheeling through our skies, much of this deep understanding has not even been regained to this modern day.
It has recently been discovered that the great six tonne alter stone has come all the way from the top of Scotland! This discovery shows the construction of Stonehenge was a far greater socially collaborative effort than scientists realised. It also means that the ancient monument, near Salisbury in south-west England, was built with stones from all parts of Great Britain. The findings suggest Neolithic Britain was a far more connected and advanced society than earlier evidence indicated. The distance between Stonehenge and the far north of Scotland is about 700km. The remaining stones in the central horseshoe, which are known as bluestones, are from Wales and the larger stones in the outer circle are from England. Stonehenge obviously was this great British endeavour involving all the different people from all over the island.
This deep-rooted loss of connectivity and understanding is the reason why today humans live in such mental and physical turmoil and chaos – the cause of modern-day suffering and anxiety. In fact, we live in a mad mad, mad, mad world!
We find it impossible to slow down and live within the cycles of the natural life.
Can we get out of this tragic and anxious dilemma?
Individually it is certainly possible! Yes, one can return to that pristine, deep-rooted understanding and rise above this “mad, mad, mad, mad world!”
And this is the deepest function of Meditation and Yoga.
For example, Taoist understanding is based on that same understanding as the Neolithic architects who created those mysterious henges, ancient stone circles and pyramid’s throughout the world.
Taoist understanding and Traditional Chinese Medicine arise from this same deep-rooted understanding.
Stillnessinyoga offer regularly, a number of course based on Taoist Traditional Chinese Medicine and for this reason we will discuss further Taoist Philosophy on my next blogs.
